The Conveyancing Process

Conveyancing is the legal process for transferring ownership of property from one person to another. The exact process depends on whether you are buying, selling, buying and selling or simply remortgaging.

A General Guide to the Conveyancing Process when Remortgaging a Property

Regardless of the reason for remortgaging your property, the process is fairly straightforward.

Your new mortgage will be used to repay your existing mortgage, and your solicitor will act for on your behalf to ensure that the transaction runs smoothly and on the behalf of your new mortgage lender to ensure that their interests are protected.

It is common for your new mortgage lender to offer to pay your solicitor's fees as part of the remortgage package, on the proviso that you use one of their approved solicitors. It is worth remembering that you are free to instruct any solicitor you choose but some lenders will specify certain criteria, for example some may not permit single-partner firms to act on their behalf. As with any deal, always check the small print!
